Since 2003, RDS has published hundreds of authors from around the world. The Review of Disability Studies: An International Journal (RDS) is a quarterly, peer-reviewed, open-access journal providing an international forum for folks with disabilities, academics, professionals, artists and creators from all backgrounds and expertise to express ideas relevant to our understanding of the experience of disability. The journal is published by the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Center on Disability Studies.

Ed Roberts (1939–1995), Father of the Independent Living Movement
This issue brings together interdisciplinary research in disability studies spanning education policy, assistive technology, arts, Indigenous knowledge, and disability history. Plain language abstracts for all articles are available at: rdsjournal.org/index.php/journal/plainlangv20i4
Since 2003, Review of Disability Studies: An International Journal has published interdisciplinary research in disability studies worldwide and serves as a platform for scholarship, dialogue, and public engagement that extends the reach of the field. The journal is published by the Center on Disability Studies, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, College of Education. Submissions will open in late spring.
The Center on Disability Studies conducts research, offers training and technical assistance, and works with community partners to support the full participation of people with disabilities and their families, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and other underserved communities in education, employment, and community life across Hawaiʻi, the Pacific, and beyond.
Flagship Event
CDS is also home to the 41st Annual Pacific Rim Conference, the premier global gathering on disability, held May 27–30 in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. Registration is now open at pacrim.coe.hawaii.edu/registration-2026

We have readers and authors from all over the world. We accept submissions in English of a scholarly nature covering a range of disciplines within disability studies as well as creative works expressing ideas in the area of disability. The RDS journal contains the following sections: 1. Research and Essays; 2. Topical Forums; 3. Creative Works; 4. Global Perspective on Disability Studies; 5. Multi-Media Review; 6. Notes from the Field; 7. Dissertation Abstracts. The journal publishes four issues a year.
