Ed Roberts (1939–1995), Father of the Independent Living Movement

Since 2003, Review of Disability Studies: An International Journal has published interdisciplinary research in disability studies worldwide and serves as a platform for scholarship, dialogue, and public engagement that extends the reach of the field. The journal is published by the Center on Disability Studies, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, College of Education. Submissions will open in late spring.
The Center on Disability Studies conducts research, offers training and technical assistance, and works with community partners to support the full participation of people with disabilities and their families, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and other underserved communities in education, employment, and community life across Hawaiʻi, the Pacific, and beyond.

CDS is also home to the 41st Annual Pacific Rim Conference, the premier global gathering on disability, held May 27–30 in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. Registration is now open at pacrim.coe.hawaii.edu/registration-2026
